Strategies for surviving bedrest

Getting that bed rest sentence from your healthcare provider can be tough - no more running around, no more preparing (but let’s face it: you’ve been ready for months), and no more putting strain on your body. Though you might have to tone the Superwoman routine down a bit when you’re on bed rest, it’s important to remember that it’s all about Baby’s health, so follow your healthcare provider's instructions as closely as possible.

That being said, bed rest can be pretty boring - it’s not even worth lying about. Staying in bed for weeks can get pretty dull, so to make the most of your time with a growing baby in your belly and ward off boredom, try a few of the following:

  • Blogging: Blogs are great for de-stressing - you can laugh, cry, or vent about your pregnancy in a healthy and safe way that can help you travel (digitally) to anywhere in the world
  • Scrapbooking: Focus your energy on giving Baby something (besides hordes of love) that will last longer even longer than the dreaded bed rest. It’s relaxing, creative, and perfect for holding the thousands of baby photos that you know you’ll have - what better way to document a pregnancy?
  • Read: Reading can make you feel like you’re in an entirely different place, so it’s perfect for bed rest. With the free time, you can read all of those books you said you would. Watching movies is another great, passive way to spend the time.
  • Shop for Baby: With all this time, why not scour the internet for the cutest and best value baby stuff?

The bottom line

The most important part about bed rest is staying positive - we know it stinks, but just keep your mind on the Baby at the end of the tunnel, and you’ll do great!
