As Baby grows, they are looking more and more human all the time. And you may be noticing your own body growing larger too!

How’s Baby?

Baby measures in at about 6.4 inches long, the size of a (large) avocado! And as your little one grows, they’re looking like a real person more than ever. Baby’s eyes are moving to the front of their head and their ears are making their way to the sides. Your little one is also becoming increasingly proportional as their legs are finally longer than their arms. They can also bend their knees and elbows now, their skeleton is still developing, and they might even be starting to grow hair.

And Baby’s little heart, still under construction, is now capable of pumping 25 quarts of blood a day! They also keep inhaling that amniotic fluid, and when they bring the fluid into their respiratory tract, it helps your baby’s little lungs develop the air sacs that will help them breathe oxygen once they’re born.

What's new with you?

Your body's circulating more blood so you can provide Baby with all the nutrients they need, but you may experience certain symptoms as a result. Stuffy or bloody noses may occur during the next few months, so try to avoid smoke, dust, or aerosols. And speaking of respiratory issues, if you’re prone to seasonal allergies, you may have already noticed that they can become more serious during pregnancy. If you’ve noticed that pregnancy is making your allergies worse and you usually take an allergy medication, be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about what medications are safe to take during pregnancy so you can find some relief. Saline nasal sprays and some other allergy medicines are generally considered safe in pregnancy, but check in with your healthcare provider about any medication — including over-the-counter ones — before you take it.

In not-all-symptoms-are-bad news, some women might be starting to notice that beautiful “pregnancy glow.” Week 15 is really exciting for another reason — as soon as next week you might even be able to feel Baby kicking!

By now, you may have also noticed your body starting to grow a bit larger. And with more growth to come as your pregnancy progresses, it may be helpful to start preparing your wardrobe to gain more weight. This may mean you want to start thinking about getting some maternity clothes. Some folks find this to be a lot of fun, and some folks feel like it’s an added stress. But you do have a lot of options to expand your wardrobe — you can buy new, borrow from friends or family, or seek out gently used items, and you can get a few choice items that are versatile and can be worn with a lot of your current clothes or decide to go for a whole new look. Just keep in mind that you’re only going to keep growing as Baby does, and you’ll want to be comfortable and feel good as you do.
